"Met knikkende knieën naar Dancetour Breda"

BREDA - Als manneke van vijftien keek 'ie verlekkerd omhoog naar het imposante podium van Dancetour Breda.
Zondag Eerste Pinksterdag staat de inmiddels 18-jarige dj Simon Nouwens zelf op het Chasséveld achter de knoppen van Bredaas grootste gratis toegankelijke dancefeest. Hij heeft deze uitverkoren positie te danken aan een gewonnen dj-contest in Mezz.

Nouwens draait sinds kort zijn plaatjes in De Spijker in Eindhoven. Daarvoor was hij huis-dj in de Bredase cafés Walkabout en D'n Dikke. Met een beetje mazzel – het wordt misschien 25 graden – staat hij zondag voor zo'n vijftienduizend mensen. "Ik voel wat zenuwen komen, maar heb geen idee hoe ik ter plekke zal reageren. Zoiets heb ik nog nooit gedaan."

De Bredanaar deelt het podium met top-dj's als Sander Kleinenberg, Don Diablo en Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano. Nouwens begint om half drie. Hij krijgt een half uur om op te vallen tussen deze erkende klasbakken. "Dat gaat wel lukken", klinkt het zelfverzekerd. "Mijn stijl is anders. Dancetour Breda is meer een housefeest. Ik draai voornamelijk trance. Dat is melodieuzer en toegankelijker."

Nouwens heeft geen idee waar zijn vuurdoop voor een mega-publiek toe zal leiden. "Ik doe gewoon mijn best. Het zou fantastisch zijn als ik het publiek ondanks het vroege tijdstip los kan krijgen. Daar ga ik voor, dat is de hoofdprijs. Daarna zien we wel verder. Ik weet wel dat de vorige winnaar van de dj-contest een paar leuke plaatjes heeft gemaakt met een paar goede artiesten. Dus wie weet."

Dancetour Breda begint om 13.00 uur met een optreden van dj Hardwell. Het eindigt om 22.00 uur, waarna in Mezz een afterparty begint. Ook hier laat Nouwens van zich horen.

DJ Masterclass with Tony Cha Cha (Dutch only)

Veertig jonge Amsterdamse DJ’s kregen woensdagavond de kans om samen met zes top-DJ’s te draaien en kennis uit te wisselen.

Studio West organiseerde de avond in samenwerking met het Stedelijk Jongerenwerk en Kunstbende Amsterdam. De DJ's van 13 tot 25 jaar konden werken met doorgewinterde DJ’s als Tony Cha Cha, Terry Toner, Hardwell, Gomes, Lucky Charmes & Marc Benjamin.

Een groot aantal deelnemers aan workshops heeft inmiddels de weg gevonden naar het culturele circuit van Amsterdam. De nu bekende hiphopformatie Zwart Licht nam zijn eerste cd op in Studio West en tekende vervolgens een contract bij het hiphoplabel Top Notch. Ook timmeren DJ’s als The Filthy Jerks, Starring Jasmine en Ci Seryne hard aan de weg.

De DJ Masterclass is een jaarlijks terugkerend evenement in Studio West. Tijdens voorgaande edities hebben o.a DJ Sunnery James, DJ TLM, DJ Jerry (Partysquad), DJ The Flexican, DJ Melly Mel, DJ Baggi Begovic, DJ Skitzofrenix & DJ Robert Feelgood laten zien hoe zij te werk gaan.

BBC 6 Mix celebrates the May Day weekend with a brand new mix from techno pioneer Derrick May.
Derrick - best known for his 1987 dance anthem Strings of Life under the name Rhythim Is Rhythim - has been an iconic name on the techno scene for over twenty years, DJing worldwide to a devoted fan base. Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, May's work - alongside fellow DJs Juan Atkins and Inner City's Kevin Saunderson - has provided the catalyst for a number of producers worldwide.
In his latest 6 Music show Derrick plays a selection of tunes which have influenced and inspired him including tracks by Brian Eno, Peven Everett and Model 500.
